In May, Broken Arrow High School seniors Hannah Green and Maria Franceschina were recognized as Honorable Mention winners for their documentary “Dear Mr. President” as part of C?SPAN’s annual student video documentary competition, StudentCam.

Their video focuses on the United States’ lack of humanitarian aid in Syria.

The students received $250 for their winning video.

StudentCam encourages middle and high school students to think critically about issues that affect their communities and the nation. This year, students were asked to create a 5-7 minute video documentary regarding the topic, “What is the most urgent issue for the new president and Congress to address in 2017?”

In response, C?SPAN received 2,903 video submissions from over 5,600 students in 46 states and Washington, D.C. One hundred fifty student and 53 teacher prizes were awarded, totaling $100,000 in prize money.

Visit studentcam.org to watch all winning videos.
