Midtown Climbing Gym Breaks Ground

CLIMB TULSA: A rendering of Climb Tulsa, 4923 E. 32 St. The midtown climbing facility will be among the top 15 percent largest climbing gyms in the country when it opens later this year.

In January, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for Climb Tulsa, a 17,500-square-foot climbing facility to be located at 4923 E. 32 St.

Climb Tulsa is scheduled for completion in late 2017 and will be one of the largest climbing gyms in the U.S., in the top 15 percent. The gym’s size and features will allow it to host national climbing competitions.

The $3 million facility will feature two floors of climbing walls, a dedicated kids’ climbing area, a yoga room and fitness center, and full-service locker rooms.

“We will be creating a world-class facility and a destination for climbers from all over the country that will put our city on the map for the USA climbing circuit, stimulating more revenue for the city and creating new jobs,” said Jason Burks, Climb Tulsa co-owner.

Burks is a local entrepreneur and climbing enthusiast who bought Tulsa’s only rock-climbing gym New Heights, 1140 S. 107th E. Ave., in early 2016. New Heights’ name was later changed to Climb Tulsa. When the new Climb Tulsa facility opens, the current gym will close.

Burks owns Climb Tulsa along with his business partner Lee Sherman, owner of Hahn Appliances.

CJC Architects is designing the Climb Tulsa facility and Red Dog Construction will be building it. The climbing wall builder is the world renowned European company Walltopia, known globally as the standard in modern climbing walls.
