The St. John ZooRun at the Tulsa Zoo was preceded by a mini-Aldabra tortoise race featuring several of this year’s hatchlings. This pre-race is a celebration of the St. John ZooRun held in early October at the Tulsa Zoo.

The Tulsa Zoo set a new record hatching 25 Aldabra tortoises, bringing its total hatchings to six Aldabra tortoises since 1999, when it started breeding this vulnerable species. Renowned for the successful breeding of the world’s second-largest tortoise species, zoo guests can see several of the tortoise hatchlings in the reptile nursery in the Conservation Center.

For 49 years, the St. John ZooRun has benefited the Tulsa Zoo. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Building Beyond Your Wildest Dreams capital campaign, which has provided funding for exhibits like the Lost Kingdom exhibit complex, Mary K. Chapman Rhino Reserve and Helmerich Sea Lion Cove.

The annual run event would not be possible without the generous sponsors, including the Title Sponsor: St. John Health System a part of Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic and nonprofit health system; Packet Pick-Up Sponsor: New Balance Tulsa; Individual Sponsors: Linda Brown – Real Estate and Robert E. Patterson; Water Stop Sponsor: Admiral Express; Hospitality Sponsors: Balanced Bodies, Brookside Nutrition, Java Dave’s Executive Coffee, KIND Snacks, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Old School Bagel Cafe, Panera Bread, Sam’s Club, Taste of the Wild Catering, The City of Tulsa, The Melting Pot and Trader Joe’s.

For more information about St. John ZooRun, visit or contact the zoo at 918-669-6602.
