Jenks Students Present ‘Wizard of Oz’ in March

March 2-5, the Jenks Vocal Music Program will present The Wizard of Oz at the Performing Arts Center on the campus of Jenks High School. Tickets are on sale now and available to the public at

The production will feature 65 students from Jenks High School as well as students from all three elementary schools and both intermediate schools. Members of the Jenks High School Orchestra and Band will be joined by several professional musicians to play the score for the production.

“The Wizard of Oz is undoubtedly a classic American story,” says Director Michael Fling, a 2011 graduate of Jenks High School. “At a time when our country is deeply divided, and we look together toward to the future, it is important for us to examine the American values that lie at the center of The Wizard of Oz: brains, heart, courage and home.”

Fling is a musical theatre director based out of New York City who returned to his alma mater to direct this production.

Jenks Vocal Music will present the Royal Shakespeare Company’s adaptation by John Kane, which is based on the 1939 motion picture produced by MGM which was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The film went on to win two Oscars for the score by Herbert Stothart and for the song “Over the Rainbow.”
