Rejoice Schools Opens Middle, High School


On Aug. 16, middle and high school students at Rejoice Christian Schools were welcomed on their first day of school to the brand new, multi-million dollar Rejoice Christian Schools (RCS) middle and high school campus, at 13407 E. 106th St. N.
The campus sits on a total of 65 acres of land, with Rejoice’s elementary school to the west.

The Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence recently recognized three Owasso High School graduates as 2016 academic all-staters: Morghan Cyr, Eden Letzkus and Brad Woolery. These students were among 100 Oklahoma public school seniors to receive this recognition.

OEF Names Director

Former Owasso educator Cindy Jolley has been named executive director of the Owasso Education Foundation (OEF).

With the growth of OEF over the past two years, the hiring of a staff member to help with daily operations is necessary, says OEF Board of Trustees President Stephanie Horne. “Cindy brings a knowledge of the education climate, and she is a great ‘people person.’”

Roland Smith Visits Owasso

In May, young adult author Roland Smith visited Owasso’s Eighth Grade Center to speak with students about his experiences as a zookeeper and author and to pass along some writing tips. Smith spent 20 years working with animals, traveling all over the world, before becoming a successful author of fiction and nonfiction young adult books, many of which incorporate animals into the storyline.

Student Creates Winning Poster

FLU PREVENTION: Hodson Elementary third grader Delaney Carlson shows her winning Don’t Bug Me poster to her classmates on May 11. Carlson’s poster was the winning creation for the 1-3 grade category of the Don’t Bug Me poster contest. The contest and Don’t Bug Me campaign is a partnership between Hillcrest HealthCare System and the Tulsa Health Department with the goal to educate the community on ways to protect themselves from the flu and other communicable diseases. Carlson, who was also recognized for her poster creation last year, was awarded an Amazon Fire tablet and a framed version of her winning poster. (See additional photo on page A14.)
