Five Tulsa Public Schools students were among 100 Oklahoma students recognized in June by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence (OFE) as Academic All-State winners at the foundation’s 31st Academic Awards Banquet, held in Tulsa. Each student was awarded a scholarship from an area business or individual.

The winning students are Booker T. Washington High School graduates Rachel Ijams, Yash Kumar, and Pierce Pettit; Memorial High School graduate Quint McCabe; and Thomas A. Edison Preparatory High School graduate Thien Y Quan.

Ijams received an All-State scholarship sponsored by Howard and Billie Barnett of Tulsa. Kumar received an Academic All-State scholarship sponsored by Ruth Nelson. Pettit received an All-State scholarship sponsored by 1999 Academic All-State Alumnus Travis Combs. McCabe received an All-State scholarship sponsored by Anchor Stone Co. of Tulsa. Quan received an All-State scholarship sponsored by the Meshri Family of Catoosa.

The Academic Awards Banquet is presented annually by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, a nonprofit organization that recognizes and encourages academic excellence in Oklahoma’s public schools. Best-selling author and historian H.W. Brands served as keynote speaker at the event.
