DISTRICT RECOGNITION: In February, Susan Henderson, digital literacy specialist at Roy Clark Elementary School, was named the 2016-2017 Union Public Schools Teacher of the Year. With her are Union Superintendent Dr. Kirt Hartzler and Dr. Kathy Dodd, right, associate superintendent of teaching and learning. Henderson came to the Union school district in 2009. Henderson uses a makerspace in the media center that allows students to experiment with STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) concepts and grow their creativity. “I firmly believe that the library needs to be so much more than just checking out books. My goal is to lead others to see that the library needs to have a space to collaborate with others to use technology to create, invent, tinker, as well as a place to access great books.”
