District Continues Legacy of Financial Excellence

It was announced in May that for the 24th consecutive year, Union Public Schools earned the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) International.

“This is the highest recognition for a school district offered by ASBO, recognizing significant achievement in school system financial reporting,” says Dr. Trish Williams, Union’s chief financial officer.

Williams says that the honor is shared by the team of personnel working together in the finance department including Cathy Smart, director of financial reporting/treasury; Gail Easterling, director of accounting; Jackie White, senior executive director of federal programs; and Debbie Jacoby, who retired in January after over 20 years serving as Union’s CFO.

“Union’s latest financial honor is a testament to Debbie Jacoby and her leadership in school finance, and we are committed to maintaining Union’s tradition of excellence in school finance,” Williams says.

In addition to ASBO, Union’s Finance Division received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for its comprehensive annual financial report in 2016. The GFOA certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
This is the 22nd consecutive year for that recognition.
