Seniors of the Month

Union High School has named its Seniors of the Month for September. They are Grant Hizer, son of Gary Hizer and Lisa and Joe Guertin of Broken Arrow; and Katherine Himaya, daughter of Alex and Meredith Himaya of Broken Arrow.

Hizer is active in football, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the 2016 Fields of Faith planning committee and the Athletic Leadership Council, as well as serves on the Central Nazarene Church Board and Youth Group. He has also worked games for Union Youth Football Association and held part-time jobs as a busboy for In The Raw and as custodian for his church.

Hizer has been named a 2017-2018 National Merit Semifinalist, is a National Technical Honor Society member, and won third place in video game design at the TSA State Conference in 2015. He has also lettered in football for the past three years.

Hizer has applied to at least six universities including Stanford University, and he hopes to study either engineering or data analysis.

Himaya is active in Student Council as spirit vice president, National Honor Society, Cookie Girls, Environmental Club and Art Club. She also volunteers at the Food Bank and leads a small group of fifth grade girls at summer camp. Her honors include making a 34 on the ACT test and being in the top four percent of her class academically.

Himaya has also applied and been accepted into several schools but has not decided which one she will attend. She hopes to eventually become an art teacher in an inner city or move overseas and help refugees in the Middle East.
