Dan Newman, athletic trainer for Union High School, in March was recognized for his work and career dedication by the National Athletic Trainers Association.

With the 2018 Gatorade Secondary School Athletic Trainer Award, Newman receives a $1,000 grant for Union’s athletics program and a Gatorade Sidelines Cart, among other things.

Gatorade teams up with the National Athletic Trainers Association to recognize 10 trainers from across the country who provide outstanding athlete care and have an impact on students, colleagues and community.

He was honored during the Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association annual meeting and symposium in La Vista, Nebraska.

In his 15th year at Union, Newman has served as president of the Oklahoma Athletic Trainers Association.

“Once again, Dan Newman was recognized for his service to his profession and the industry he has been a part of for over 20 years,” Union Director of Athletics Emily Barkley said. “Dan is an integral part of Union’s Sports Medicine team that is committed to keeping our athletes healthy, as well as ensuring a speedy and safe return to the playing field. We have been very lucky to have Dan in the Union family for over 15 years. He embodies the Union Way of doing things.”
