Congratulations to Union’s Grove Elementary for winning The Reading Tree Challenge sponsored by The Gathering Place. Students were recently honored for reading the most books of any school in the participating area. Grove students read 121,307 to win a pizza party and a medal for each student.

Leanne Taylor, Channel 6 morning news anchor, Tony Moore, director of The Gathering Place, and Ariana Reagor, of Moore Elementary and the spokesperson for the Reading Challenge, helped pass out medals for special pictures.

Reagor helped lead the assembly, even reading to students. Students also enjoyed a game in which three teachers played musical chairs with a blindfold. After the assembly, all of the students received their own medal – no other school in the area received this medal – and then they went back to their class for a pizza party.
Grove Elementary is located at 10202 E. 62nd St. in Tulsa.

The Reading Challenge is still in the midst of its campaign. More than 1,657,000 books have been read. The goal is to read 2 million books by the time the park opens.

About Gathering Place
A project of George Kaiser Family Foundation, Gathering Place will transform nearly 100 acres of Tulsa’s waterfront along the Arkansas River into a dynamic and active space when the project is completed. A public-private partnership, GKFF and numerous corporate and community philanthropists gave ownership of the $465 million park to River Parks Authority who in turn signed a long-term operational and management lease back to an entity of the foundation to ensure the highest quality operation, maintenance and programming for the life of the park.
