Josie Uerling Wins Swimming Championship

For the first time in five years, Union can boast of having a state champion swimmer.
Senior Josie Uerling achieved the honor when she won the girls 200-yard freestyle event at the Class 6A state meet on Feb. 17 in Edmond. She captured the first-place medal after finishing a time of 1:52.60, finishing ahead of runner-up Katie Callahan of Edmond Memorial (1:53.13).
“I am very excited to be a state champion,” Uerling says. “Especially since I’m the first to be a state champion from Union since 2013. I like being able to represent my school. It’s also great for me to see how all my hard work this season paid off.”

Michiah McQuarters Going Strong at Union

It is a season of transition for Union’s Michiah McQuarters. But it hasn’t been too difficult.  

Having played basketball since seventh grade, the Redskins’ senior guard is from a strong sports family. His uncle is R.W. McQuarters who starred in football at Oklahoma State. Michiah is doing a lot, averaging 16 points, 5.6 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and 3 blocked shots per game, contributing to the team’s 8-3 record and a No. 10 ranking in 6A boys.

Springtime Another Championship Season for Union

Another spring sports team at Union earned the right to be called champions this spring. While the girls’ soccer team took their third straight state title at The University of Tulsa on May 13, the boys track team won their first Class 6A state championship in eight years and one Lady Redskin captured gold medals in two field events in Yukon. The event took place over a two-day period.
