The American Heart Association’s Heart Ball kicked off its 37th year as Tulsa’s oldest medical fundraising event during a special evening hosted by Saint Francis Health System. The theme and logo for the 2008 Heart Ball were unveiled by representatives from Fair Isaac. The 2008 Heart Ball is the “Route 66 Roundup” and will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008 at the Tulsa Convention Center. Saint Francis Health System is the presenting sponsor.
One of the special elements of the Tulsa Heart Ball is the presentation of the Sweethearts and Mavericks who participate in a program with the Heart Association. Area youth spend the months preceding the Ball learning about heart issues such as healthy lifestyles, CPR and fitness. In addition, they learn philanthropy as they raise money in support of the American Heart Association and become advocates for good heart health.
The Heart Ball, which began in 1970, helps raise funds locally to help in the fight against the nations number one killer, cardiovascular disease. Currently, the American Heart Association is funding 14 cardiovascular research projects worth more than $1.72 million in Oklahoma.
