2017 Brought Student Success at Tulsa Tech

Now that the holidays are over, we find ourselves returning to work, school, and the busy schedules that accompany life in general.
While 2018 will certainly offer many exciting opportunities for Tulsa Tech students, faculty, and staff, this past year was full of activity, and included some major accomplishments in 2017.
Tulsa Tech continued an extensive master development planning and construction process with the redevelopment of the Lemley Memorial Campus along with the Industry Training Center, located at 3420 S. Memorial Dr.
Enrollment in full-time career training courses remains strong at Tulsa Tech with nearly 5,500 adult and high school students participating in full-time career training. More than 30,000 adults took advantage of part-time evening and online courses designed to help adults upgrade their job skills or retrain for a new career in a short amount of time.
Tulsa Tech’s Accelerating Independence Scholarship covered 100 percent of tuition for scholarship recipients, and students with or high school diplomas from any of Tulsa Tech’s in-district, public, parochial, or home schools through the age of 23 are eligible to apply for the 2018 spring semester.
Academic credit continued to be offered to high school students, giving them the opportunity to earn math and science credits, including Advanced Placement courses for many programs taken at Tulsa Tech, and achieve their high school graduation requirements.
Tulsa Tech provided support and customized training services to more than 500 Tulsa-area businesses through the Business and Industry Services () Department, as well as small business management and self-employment preparedness classes.
Student leadership organizations celebrated many national winners in 2017, with several capturing first-place gold medals; there were also hundreds of local and state winners in career and technology student organizations (’s) skill and leadership competitions. The seven student organizations are , SkillsUSA, Family, Career & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Oklahoma Society of Radiologic Technologists (), Health Occupations Students of America (), Business Professionals of America (), and the Technology Student Association ().
Tulsa Tech will continue to provide quality technical training to thousands of high school and adult students and corporate clients annually at multiple campuses and several satellite training locations.
We will be offering full-time career training programs to high school students from 14 public school districts throughout Tulsa County in addition to private, parochial, home-school, charter, and adult students. Classes for high school students will meet for three hours in the morning or three hours in the afternoon, although programs specific to adults may have additional hour requirements.
From healthcare to aviation, information technology to construction, all Tulsa Tech courses offer hands-on activities in modern classroom, lab, shop, and/or clinical settings. High school students still attend tuition-free, and transportation is provided. Hundreds of part-time evening, weekend, and continuing education courses will continue to help adults train for new careers, upgrade current job skills, and maintain individual certifications and licensures.
This upcoming year is sure to offer many more exciting opportunities for the state’s oldest and largest career and technical education institution in Oklahoma’s highly acclaimed CareerTech system. And we look forward to helping each of our students Make Their Own Path in 2018.
