23rd Annual Jenks Herb & Plant Festival Set for Saturday, April 27

The Jenks Herb & Plant Festival is widely anticipated as the official signal of the start of spring. The fun begins April 27 at 8 a. m. and goes ‘til 4 p.m. in the heart of downtown Jenks. Main Street literally turns green from the long line of booths brimming over with hundreds of varieties of herbs, vegetables, (especially tomatoes) flowers, shrubs, trees and all the essentials to get gardens growing.
Many new vendors have been added this year as they discovered the Jenks Herb & Plant Festival for the first time via Facebook and jenksgardenclub.com; as a result they are bringing their beautiful and inventive creations to the festival.
Need help with what to plant where? The helpful Creek and Tulsa County Master Gardeners will be present to share their extensive knowledge and experience to help with planting questions. A delicious pancake and sausage breakfast is scheduled as Kiwanians start flipping pancakes from 7 to 10 a.m. just a short block up Main Street at First Methodist Church. A variety of festival food vendors will be available for hungry shoppers who will be able to enjoy a quiet place to relax amid the greenery and benches of the beautiful Jenks park at 2nd & “A” streets called “The Jenks Commons.”
Children are in for hands-on fun in the First Planting experience booth. An added thrill is the Garden Railroads chugging around on real tracks on kid’s level with the Jenks Fire Truck nearby.
Here’s what Everfest, the national festival authority, has to say:
The Jenks Garden Club of Jenks, Oklahoma, is here to quell your anxiety about owning an ugly garden. Healthy plants, knowledgeable volunteers and more than 100 garden vendors make attending the Herb & Plant Festival a no-brainer for gardening hopefuls. Once you’re through here, you’ll never dig into dirt without confidence ever again.
