Admiral Twin Drive-In is Open Again
TULSA, Okla. – You know it is finally spring in Tulsa when the Admiral Twin Drive-In is open for another year. This year is a special one since it will be the 60th Anniversary.
The Admiral Twin originally opened in 1951. Back then it was called the Modernaire Drive-In and that first season it only had one screen. In 1952 the second screen was added and a name change to what it is called today, The Admiral Twin Drive-In.
Co-owner, Blake Smith, who has been involved with the property since 1987 says ‘he looks forward to this time of year to go out and get the place open for all of Tulsa to enjoy.’ With this being the 60th Anniversary of continual operation they are planning a celebration on April 24th.
April 24th they have scheduled a screening of ‘The Outsiders’. There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony and a few people that were in ‘The Outsiders’ as extras will be on hand with memorabilia. Smith says, ‘he regularly gets asked about scenes from the movie and has had hundreds of fans come out just see the place and hang out where it was filmed.’
This year the drive-in will be free for kids 11 and under on Sundays thru Thursdays and only $2.00 for Fridays and Saturdays. Everyone 12 and older is charged $7.00 for admission and there is always a first-run double feature showing nightly. As usual The Admiral Twin Drive-In will have all the summers blockbuster hits-scheduled to play are: Iron Man 2, Shrek Forever After, and Toy Story 3 plus many more.
Concessions are the cheapest in the Tulsa market and this year they will feature ‘the original slider Hamburger’ made famous by ‘White Castle’. The first couple of
weekends the drive-in will be open only on the weekends and will go 7 days a week closer to May, and be open thru Labor Day.
