American Airlines Veterans Hold Flag Retirement Ceremony

June 14 marked the 235th anniversary of Flag Day, which commemorates the adoption of the flag for the .

In celebration, members of the American Airlines Veteran Military Employee Resource Group (VMERG) Tulsa Chapter held a U.S. Flag Retirement ceremony. During the ceremony, VMERG members taught area residents, including Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, how to properly dispose of their old U.S. flags, and they learned a bit of history about the nation’s banner.

This ceremony’s program featured posting of colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, singing of the National Anthem, and a ceremony of the flags, followed by a ceremonial burning of the flags, held in the photo at the right by the Scout Troop.

The ceremony took place June 14 at Mohawk Park, Shelter 2 across from the zoo.
