More than 1,000 people filled the Oklahoma Aquarium Jan. 8 for a pre-inaugural ball honoring Governor-elect Mary Fallin.

The event was very important to the new governor as thousands from across the state were in attendance just to have the opportunity to meet her.

After addressing everyone from a large stage, Fallin took the time to shake hands and pose for pictures with guests.

Everyone present was treated to music, dancing and a variety of food throughout the aquarium galleries. Exhibits provided beautiful and unique backdrops for the special occasion.

Each and every exhibit throughout the aquarium was open for everyone to enjoy during the event. Guests walked through the halls while mingling with one another and admiring the displays of aquatic life.

Inaugural committee members chose the Oklahoma Aquarium as a venue in order to highlight the importance of the tourism industry. The aquarium is, in fact, the leading tourist attraction in Oklahoma. With a $6.1 million impact, tourism is the third largest industry in the state.

All involved with the Oklahoma Aquarium were honored to have shared in the welcoming of the state’s first female governor. The event also served as an opportunity to showcase the aquarium’s educational and economic qualities.

Fallin will take office with a number of goals in mind. Among them are balancing the state’s budget without raising taxes, improving education for all ages and creating an environment that is welcoming to businesses.
