The AT&T and the AT&T Pioneers, a volunteer group of AT&T employees who donate their time for people in need, and members of the Communication Workers of America teamed with “Share our Strength” () in the national “Holiday Call for Service” to help the 12.4 million children at risk of hunger in America.

The public was also invited to participate in the two-week program, which lasted from Nov. 12 to Dec. 18. During that time span, Tulsa area AT&T Pioneers helped to make the 145-city food drive a success to help eliminate childhood hunger by collecting 650 pounds of food and donating $800 to the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma.

Employees from throughout AT&T responded to this need and collected nearly 20 tons of food for the Holiday Call to Service food drive that is part of AT&T Cares, the company’s community-focused volunteerism initiative.

Bill Shore, founder and executive director of Share Our Strength, says that more than 12 million children in America face hunger, and the needs are growing. Share Our Strength is the leading national organization working to end childhood hunger in America.

Though the program ended Dec. 18, donations will continue to be accepted. Wireless phone users, including AT&T customers, can donate $5 to Share Our Strength by simply texting the word “SHARE” to 20222 on their mobile device. Oklahoma State Rep. Jabar Shumate encourages continued giving even after the holidays.
