Loretta Smail recently opened Auntie Retta’s Amish Foods in the heart of downtown Jenks.
Surrounded by Amish tradition while growing up in Ohio, Smail had always wanted to incorporate Amish foods and crafts into a business for everyone to enjoy.
After moving with her family to the Jenks area, Smail decided that it was the perfect place to begin the business among the rows of unique antique shops.
Under a nickname that was given to her by a niece, Auntie Retta’s Amish Foods has already become an important part of the community.
The store boasts a variety of foods including granola, popcorn, pie fillings, soups, dip mixes, teas and noodles. Over 67 types of spices are also available.
Canned preserves are very popular at the store. “They do not have any preservatives and are made with the best quality ingredients.”
Everything in the store is made by either Troyer or Dutch Valley Foods, which is based in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
In addition, Smail has incorporated primitive decorations, cookbooks, art, signs, candles, and baskets for sale throughout the store. “I really believe that there is something here that everyone would like.”
Every Friday and Saturday, Ropp’s Baked Goods provides tasty pastries and breads for customers.
In the coming months, Smail hopes to add an array of Amish meats and cheeses to the store.
Auntie Retta’s Amish Foods is located at 207 E. Main St. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 918-995-2871.
