Baseball Hosts Oakland in Summit League Opening Weekend

TULSA, Okla. – ORU begins its quest for its 13th consecutive Summit League title when the Golden Eagles host Oakland … ORU is 21-1 all-time against Oakland in games played at J.L. Johnson Stadium … Oakland only victory in Tulsa came in the final game of the 2002 regular-season … if ORU wins the series the Golden Eagles will climb back above .500 … this is the first of three Summit League home weekend for ORU … the Golden Eagles host Western Illinois (April 23-25) and North Dakota State (21-23).

Scouting Oakland
The Golden Grizzlies enter the weekend with a 5-15 overall record. Oakland suffered a 13-6 defeat at Notre Dame on Tuesday. Head Coach John Musachio is 42-79 in his third year with the Golden Grizzlies. Oakland’s offense is led by outfielder Tim Ryan, who enters the weekend with a .358 batting average. Ryan also tops the squad with eight stolen bases. On the mound Oakland owns a 7.67 team ERA. Starting pitcher Kyle Teague leads the way with a 2-3 record and 5.67 ERA. Teague has struck out 31 batters in 33.1 innings pitched.

Last Time Out
ORU played perhaps its most complete game of the season in a 7-4 win at Texas-Arlington on Tuesday. Using small ball and a strong relief effort, the Golden Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak.
    The Golden Eagles used three bunt base hits, three sacrifice bunts and three run-scoring groundouts to break out of their offensive slump. Relievers 
Spencer RobertsSean Johnson (1-0) and Jeff Burleson (2nd save) combined to allow just one run and two hits in five innings. 
    Johnson tossed three innings in relief, allowing an unearned run on two hits to earn his first victory. Johnson struck out four without a walk. Lefty Mark Guest started and allowed three runs on four hits in 4.0 innings.
    Joey Winiecki had three hits to lead ORU, while Tyler SaladinoChris Elder and Colby Priceeach collected two hits as part of ORU’s 11-hit attack.
