Bishop Kelley Boasts Nine Merit Semifinalists

COMET SCHOLARS: National Merit Semifinalists pause in front of Bishop Kelley High School. They are in the running to win a National Merit Scholarship, which would benefit their college goals.
National Merit Semifinalists from Bishop Kelley High School are Alex Brown, Anson Crouch, Micah Larsen, Zac McCormick, Alex McKinstry, David O’Connor, Michael Williamson, Logan Young and Alex Yozzo.
Semifinalists have the opportunity to advance to finalist standing.
About 90 percent of semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and more than half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
Awards are sponsored by business organizations and about 200 colleges and universities.
The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.
To become a finalist, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
The semifinalist must submit a detailed scholarship application, which includes an essay and information about leadership in school and community activities.
Bishop Kelley has the most 2012 National Merit Semifinalists of any private school in Oklahoma.
