Tulsa, Okla. – For the second straight year, Bixby Rugby Club and Jenks Rugby Club will be battling it out under the lights of a high school football stadium.
Jenks is hosting the Second Annual Southside Rugby Bowl on Saturday April 3, 2010 in Hunter Dwelley Stadium. Last year, 800 fans showed up to watch the fearsome rivalry between the two clubs, with Bixby prevailing. This year’s matchup has the added component of an early season loss by Bixby to Jenks in the Green Country Rugby Showdown. Bixby will be seeking to avenge that loss, and Jenks likes it chances at home before a friendly crowd.
Both teams have had success this season in the Green Country High School Rugby Union. Jenks comes into the match with a 3-3 record on the season, which belies their performances thus far. They have suffered narrow losses to both Union and Canton, and continue to show improvement and talent. They are led by their Captain and 8-Man Andrew Shorrosh.
Meanwhile, Bixby is 7-1 on the season, and are also led by their 8-Man, Captain James Morgan. Bixby in undefeated in regular season play, continuing their unbeaten regular season streak to 12 matches in a row since 2009. Similar styles of play and tough defense by both squads will make this event guaranteed to be hard hitting and entertaining for rugby aficionados and all other fans of fast paced, physical sports. Tickets are $3, and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
