Bixby Public Schools Continue to Grow

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE: Bixby Public Schools has become a leader in education throughout the area.

Teachers and administrators are looking forward to the 2010-2011 academic year and all of the educational opportunities that are in store for students at Bixby Public Schools.

The Bixby Public School District encompasses 70 square miles in southwest Tulsa County. There are currently 4,400 students enrolled in the district. The growth of the community continues to be reflected in this number every year.

Bixby Public Schools provide a quality education to all students in order to prepare them for a future in a technology-based society. The district is also designed to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for everyone while maintaining qualified and compassionate teachers and staff.

The encouragement of community involvement is very important in the district. Effective communication with students, teachers, administrators and patrons has built a foundation for the schools.

Bixby Public Schools currently boasts six instructional sites throughout the district. These sites include Bixby High School; Bixby Middle School; Brassfield Fifth and Sixth Grade Center; North Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Grade Center; Central Elementary and Bixby North Elementary.

One of the most unique aspects of the district is the variety of specialized programs that are offered to students. Many districts of a comparable size throughout the state do not have so many options for students to choose from.

Some of the specialized programs that are offered at Bixby Public Schools include music, art and speech. Also available are programs that help to support special and gifted education.

An Advanced Placement Program is available at the secondary level for students in grades 10 through 12. The courses are academically challenging and are often focused on specific areas of study. Analytical and writing skills are reiterated throughout the courses to prepare students for continued education. Students in the Advanced Placement Program have the opportunity to earn credit for college.

Also offered in the district is the Pre-Advanced Placement Program. Available in middle school, these courses prepare students for college level work and help them to succeed in high school.

Everyone is encouraged to become involved in the student organizations that have formed through the years at Bixby Public Schools. Some of these organizations include the Future Farmers of America, Student Council, Debate Team, Choir and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The organizations at Bixby Public Schools serve as an extension of the curriculum and offer endless learning opportunities to students. Memberships are voluntary and do not impact classroom grades.

Athletics has become a very important part of the student experience in the district. Coaches focus not only on helping athletes become their best at a sport but also focus on leadership, goal setting, organization, work ethic, self-discipline, communication, determination, cooperation, dependability, honesty, perception and relationships.

Bixby Public Schools are fully accredited by the State of Oklahoma. In addition, Bixby High School is also accredited by the North Central Association.

Classes begin Aug. 12. For more information about Bixby Public Schools, call (918) 366-2200.
