Bixby Rotary Reaches Far to Help Belize
GIVING HEALTH: Members of Bixby Rotary volunteered their time to help prepare supplies for the long trip to Belize. Not only will the medical supplies be welcomed with open arms but the shipment will also provide a piece of mind for families and individuals.
Bixby Rotary is shipping a sea container full of medical supplies and equipment to the country of Belize. This international effort is being coordinated with The Rotary Club of Belize. Belize is located at the lower tip of Mexico between Guatemala and Honduras.
The planning and gathering of the 7,200 pounds of medical supplies is being handled by the Medical Supplies Network, Inc. Medical Supplies Network, Inc. is a Rotary District 6110 Project that collects used and new supplies that are still working or in sterile packages. Medical Supplies Network, Inc. ships at least one 40-foot sea container every month out of the warehouse located at 1123 S. Erie in Tulsa. The warehouse is a vital extension of the program because so many supplies are packaged and loaded into containers.
A large number of Bixby Rotary members volunteered their time to help prepare the supplies for the long trip to Belize. The sea container will be welcomed with open arms in Belize and will also provide a much-needed relief to families and individuals there.
Medical Supplies Network, Inc. has shipped 143 sea containers to 38 different countries since January 1996. Bixby Rotary hopes this is the first of many containers shipped to Belize Rotarians.
Other recent projects of the Rotary Club of Bixby include: Shop with a Cop, Up With Trees plantings and the Bixby ’n Blues Festival.
The Rotary Club of Bixby was established in September 2000. Anyone interested in joining the Rotary Club of Bixby is invited to attend luncheon meetings that are held every Tuesday.
