Bixby’s ‘Not Your Mama’s Craft Show’ a Fun Time

Bixby parent Joely Flegler will host her fifth annual “Not Your Mama’s Craft Show” benefiting Bixby Public School libraries being held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10am – 4pm.
Flegler has three children (a senior, sophomore and fifth grader) attending Bixby schools. She says, “I started the show five years ago when I knew that public education funding was being drastically cut in our state.” 
Flegler adds “I attended a book fair at Bixby Middle School and learned that the only way the library was able to buy new books was from proceeds from the book fair.  That didn’t seem right given the number of students in our district and all of those students use the library. I knew that I wanted to help, even if in a small way.”
She continues, “The first year (2014), a handful of vendors attended the show. Over the past few years, it has snowballed from my yard into my neighbor’s yards! Close to 30 local vendors will be at this year’s show selling mostly hand-made artesian items including everything from beautiful jewelry, boutique clothing, local honey, homemade fudge, home and holiday decor, yard art, pottery, children’s items, books and more. The Route 66 Fry Bread food truck will be back for the fifth year and will be selling made-from-scratch lunch items and drinks!”
Flegler says, “Last year the show raised $5,300 and all proceeds were distributed among every library in the Bixby school district.  The show is a lot of fun and since it is held outdoors, it has an old-fashioned, bazaar feel. Shoppers are guaranteed to find something fun and unique.”
There is a $5 admission fee and all proceeds go to the libraries. Children ages 18 and younger are free.
