Blues Musicians will come together for Mississippi and Joplin relief at Back Alley Blues and BBQ Grand Opening Event
The new Back Alley Blues and downtown will open with a bang this week as it invites the community to its “Back Alley Beatdown” event benefiting the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for Joplin and Mississippi.
“This is an exciting time for us as we’re celebrating our grand opening, but we can’t forget our neighbors who have just said goodbye to so much,” Back Alley owner Blake Ewing said. “Our hearts go out to all those having to rebuild their lives from the recent disasters. We’d like to use our opening to do something good for them.”
Joplin was struck by the deadliest single tornado in the United States since 1947 causing approximately $7 billion in damages, while Mississippi experienced an EF-5 tornado for the first time in over 40 years; over 450,000 acres of cropland flooded, causing over $250 million in damages to agriculture in Mississippi alone. The American Red Cross is working directly with both areas to provide aid to those in need, and the money raised at Back Alley’s event will be split evenly between the two funds.
Back Alley Beatdown will kick off with live music from local blues artists Wink Burcham, Danny Buck, The Little Danny Baker Trio, Big Daddy and the Blues Kickers with Wanda Watson, and Jeff Martinson, as well as smoked turkey legs and cold beverages. The event will take place outside of the restaurant on 2nd and Elgin on Friday, June 17 from 7 p.m. to midnight, and it will be free and open to the public; however, cash donations are strongly encouraged.
