Bob Carpenter Operation Hope to Feature Cards

The fourth annual Bob Carpenter Operation Hope charity golf tournament is scheduled for Oct. 24 at Tulsa’s MeadowBrook Country Club and will feature several St. Louis Cardinal greats.
Hall of Fame Manager Whitey Herzog along with former Cardinals Tom Pagnozzi, Andy Van Slyke, Al Hrabosky, Jerry Reuss and Ryan Franklin will be among the sports celebrities scheduled to play in the tournament.
Carpenter, a Tulsa resident and Washington Nationals television broadcaster, will host the tournament now in its fourth year. “There’s a great line-up for former major leagues stars coming to this year’s tournament,” says Carpenter. “The golfers will enjoy their day on the course with them.”
The tournament will be a “shamble” format featuring a four-person team with a sports celebrity. A pairing party and sports auction with the celebrities will take place at the MeadowBrook Country Club at 6:30 pm on Oct. 23. The parings party is free to the golfers and open to the general public for a fee of $20 a person. Admission includes hor d’oeuvres and the opportunity to bid on auction items.
Other sports celebrities schedule to attend include Ray Knight and Tom Paciorek. Knight played for 13 seasons in the major leagues and was twice named to the All-Star team. He was the 1986 World Series for the champion New York Mets. Tom Paciorek played in 18 year major league season as am outfielder/first baseman. He was an All-Star and played in the 1974 World Series.
The tournament benefits Operation Hope Ministries. The Tulsa based organization provides mentoring in employment, housing and transportation to those being released from prison.
“In the past three years the tournament has raised more than $55,000 for Operation Hope Ministries,” says Giles Gere, Operation Hope Board chairman. “Not only does the tournament raise needed funds but the public awareness of the ministry has expanded. “
Teams of four are now available for $1,000 as well as individual players for $250.
All players receive two invitations for the pairings party and auction, 18 holes of golf with cart and range balls, tee prizes, a dozen golf balls, breakfast, lunch and team awards.
The tournament will start at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 24 at MeadowBrook Country Club, 9300 E. 81st St. in Tulsa.
Tournament sponsors include Renaissance Hotel of Tulsa, Lexus of Tulsa and MeadowBrook County Club.
