Bohannon Family Opens B&B at 91st and Delaware

The Bohannon family has been in the retail liquor business in the Tulsa area since 1977. The business boasts a strong family history as well as a reputation of providing quality products and customer service.
The first store was a small mom and pop store at 49th Street and Memorial Drive. Their son Brian worked in the store while he attended law school at the University of Tulsa. Upon graduation, he encouraged his parents to sell the first store and put in a new larger store in South Tulsa.
A decision was made to open a new state-of-the-art store, which was located at 7002 S. Mingo Rd. and appropriately named “B and B Liquor Warehouse,” and Brian became the general manager of the store. The store is now 7,500 square feet and the second largest liquor store in the Tulsa area. It opened December 1, 1993 and is still operating at the same location.
Until a legislative change in November 2008, a husband and wife could only own one liquor store between them. This was all changed by Senate Bill 539, which was approved by the governor and went into effect on November 1, 2008. Sara Bohannon has been the licensee for B and B since 1993. Upon this change in the statutes, Joe began looking for a store to purchase and finally found an existing store located at 91st Street and Delaware Ave. in the Delaware Center Shopping Center.
The store was owned by Brent Cooper and was originally opened in the mid-1980’s. Joe Bohannon purchased the store in June 2009. The name was changed to B and B Liquor Warehouse South. The address is 2828 E. 91st St., Suite A, which is on the west end of the center.
Extensive remodeling has been completed by installing all new shelving, improving the lighting, adding new signage and check out counters and a state-of-the-art scanning sales system.
Responses from customers have been very favorable on the changes. A knowledgeable staff of six employees run the store. The wine selection has been expanded and many new products added in the spirits, cordial and beer sections.
Joe is an attorney in Tulsa having graduated from the TU law school in 1988 and is still in practice. He and Sara met at Oklahoma State University, then known as Oklahoma A & M, in 1955 and both graduated in 1959. In addition to Brian, they have a daughter, Stacy Sargent and five grandchildren.
They have both been active in the Tulsa community over the years and now live in Broken Arrow after living in southeast Tulsa for over 40 years.
