Bonde Leads Golden Eagles on First Day in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – Six Golden Eagles competed on the first day of the 2010 NCAA Track and Field West Preliminary on Thursday in Austin, Texas. 

Marvin Bonde (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) clocked a season-best time of 10.35 in the 100-meter dash to lead ORU on the opening day with an eighth-place finish. Bonde will advance to the quarterfinal round on Friday, as the top 12 finishers will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Jeffery Gibson (Freeport, Bahamas) also competed on the men’s side, placing 45th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.41.

Katie Stoever (Tulsa, Okla.) highlighted action on the women’s side, placing 23rd in the pole vault with a height of 3.90 meters.

Freshman Cornesha Wilkerson (Tulsa, Okla.) competed in her first NCAA event, placing 40th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.06.

Whitney Mills (Tulsa, Okla.) and TK Whitfield (Arlington, Texas) rounded out Thursday’s action, placing 41st and 46th, respectively, in the 400-meter dash.
