Broken Arrow Rugby Climbs to Top, Takes State

PILED UP: The 2009 Green Country Rugby State Championship game was a rematch of the previous year’s state finals between Broken Arrow Rugby and the Tulsa Bretheren. The Brethren won the 2008 title. It is a different story this season.
The weekend’s championship series started off with B.A. knocking off No. 4 Jenks with a 29-0 final score. The semi finals saw B.A. overtaking the No. 1 seed Bixby 15-12 in an amazing game between two fantastic teams. B.A. then polished off its run through the tournament with a 24-10 thrashing of rival and No. 2 seed The Brethren for the title. In the championship match, Scott Riggs scored twice and Tavron Owens scored once in the second half.
B.A. went on to play and lose at the Regionals championship game. Above, Several B.A. players take down a St. Thomas player.
