Brooks Overcomes the Odds

Jimmy Brooks has been riding horses his entire life thanks to the encouragement of his father. He became a jockey in 1984 and has been passionate about the sport ever since.
Three years ago, Brooks was severely injured while attempting to train a horse to enter into the gate. “The horse was frightened, reared back and then fell on top of me. It was very difficult because I had to be in a wheelchair for almost six months.”
He explains that it takes determination to be a jockey and that determination helped Brooks to saddle up again. Today, he enjoys racing at Fair Meadows, which opened for the season in early June.
