Chili and Fun at Mills Elementary School April 23
It will be an evening of spicy food and lots of fun at the Mills Elementary Family Fun Chili Night, Friday, April 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
The fundraiser for the Mills Action Club will feature competition-level chili based on recipes from world championship chili cooks, hot dogs, beverages, and plenty of fun activities including games, face painting, contests, and drawings.
“We were looking for something special to do that would be fun for our students, their families, and our community. We discovered grandparents of a Mills student were International Chili Society members and world-class chili cooks,” said event chair Julie Brothers.
“We asked John and Kay Fenrich to participate by sharing their championship recipe. They agreed and have also brought other area chili cooks on board,” she said.
Joining the Fenrichs with competition People’s Choice chili will be 2010 International Chili Society Oklahoma champion Bob Alexander of Tulsa and 2009 Claremore Bluegrass regional champion Mike Mayenschein of Owasso.
Admission to the Chili Fun Night is $5 for adults, $3 for children 4 to 12 and 3 and under free. Those coming will get a bowl of chili with their choice of “fixin’s” which include spaghetti, cheese, onions and corn chips, or a hot dog with chili, a beverage. Maggie Moo is also expected to be on site.
Tickets are now available from any Mills Elementary student or teacher. The girl student and the boy student selling the most tickets will be crowned “Miss Chili Pepper,” and “Mr. Hot Sauce.”
Tickets can also be purchased in advance at the school office, 8200 N. 124th E. Ave., or at the door the night of the event.
Proceeds from the Family Fun Chili Night will fund projects supported by the Mills Action Club.
