Citizen Foresters Wanted

Last spring, Up With Trees had the pleasure of welcoming 30 volunteers into our inaugural Citizen Forester program. Over the past year, their efforts have played a vital role in our success.

You too can take part in our March 2010 session. Our classes will take place on 4 Saturday mornings, beginning March 20, 2010 at our new building at 1102 S. Boston Ave. in downtown Tulsa.

The Up With Trees Citizen Forester program is a great opportunity for Tulsans who are interested in learning or enhancing arboricultural knowledge and skills. The classes focus on the “P’s of Trees:” Planning, Planting, Preserving and Promoting Tulsa’s urban forest.

Participants will enjoy in-class as well as hands-on field applications as part of each session. Citizen Foresters will receive 16 hours of training with Tulsa’s top arborists, learning how to identify tree species, plant and maintain trees as well as promote urban forestry awareness and education. They’ll also receive a limited edition t-shirt, hat, car decal, and other unique perks, such as free admission to continuing education sessions.

Program graduates will become part of a valuable volunteer corps that will plant and maintain trees in parks and other locations, and provide outreach at educational fairs and events.
