City of BA takes City Council Meetings to Web with Granicus

The City of Broken Arrow has launched live streaming of City Council meetings with solutions offered by San Francisco-based Granicus, Inc.

The new system, which will be showing the Dec. 7 council meeting, will improve citizen access to government meetings and aid in improving government transparency.

The City is using the technology to meet the information demands of the 21st Century.

“We want our residents to have every opportunity to know what is going on within its government,” said Broken Arrow Mayor Mike Lester. “By offering live online streaming, residents can watch in real-time the actions being taken by our council. It’s another step we are taking in an effort to be transparent to our tax payers.”

Once the meeting has concluded, residents can also utilize the play-back option and enjoy indexed points that enable users to easily navigate through the meeting by agenda items.

“This option gives residents the opportunity to view a single item on the agenda instead of watching the entire meeting,” said Director of Communications Stephanie Higgins. “In this electronic age, people want information in real-time and quickly. This application gives us that opportunity.”

Residents will be gain access to the system through the city’s Web site:

Currently, only council meetings are being streamed. In the future, other meetings will be streamed as well.
