Copeland Leads Golden Eagles Past IUPUI, 2-0

TULSA-Senior Sterling Copeland scored a goal and added an assist to help lead Oral Roberts to a 2-0 Summit League win over IUPUI, Saturday at ORU Soccer Complex. The win snapped ORU’s eight-game winless streak.

Senior Jon Gann opened the scoring for the Golden Eagles (3-6-2 overall, 1-1-1 Summit), hooking up with Copeland on a nifty give-and-go on the right side of the goal. Gann scored in the 38th minute for a 1-0 ORU lead.

Copeland gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead when scored on a streaking shot from the left side with less than 30 seconds remaining before halftime. Freshman Johnny Chavez and sophomore John David James were credited with assists.

ORU’s defense took care of the rest. Senior goalkeeperAndrew Techanchuk made six saves in recoding his third shutout of the season.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they visit Summit League foe Western Illinois, 3 p.m., Friday, October 15 in Macomb, Ill.
