Cowboy Cross Country Racks Up Academic Honors

ORLEANS – More than three months after its second national championship in program history, Oklahoma State’s Cowboy cross country team received more honors today, the USTFCCCA announced.

These honors came for achievement in the classroom as well as on the cross country course.

Outgoing senior Ryan Vail and sophomores Colby Lowe and German Fernandez were named to the USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic Team.

Those athletes who carried a minimum 3.25 grade point average and finished among the top 10 percent at their respective regional meet were among the 58 named to the team.

For Vail, a Gresham, Ore., native, it is the fourth time he has been named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for cross country. He was also named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for track and field four times in his career at Oklahoma State.

Fernandez and Lowe were named to the team for the first time in their short careers.

Oklahoma State, with three athletes on the team, is behind only Iona and Stanford, who each placed four on the All-Academic Team. The Big 12 and the Pac-10 led all conferences with seven student-athletes named to the team.
