Cowboy Golf Rallies For Vegas Victory

VEGAS — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team erased a 10-shot deficit over the course of its final round on Sunday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters en route to a come-from-behind victory at Southern Highlands Golf Club.

The top-ranked Cowboys began the day 10 shots off the pace of California and four strokes behind Texas A&M at the par-72, 7,510-yard layout. Through the front nine, the Bears still held a sizable advantage before mounted its furious comeback over the inward nine.

The Cowboys’ four counting scores resulted in a combined 2-under total over the final nine holes to get in at 5-under 283 for the day. The Cowboys finished as the lone team under par in the event at 1-under 863, while the Aggies finished at 870 and Cal came in at 873.

For , the win was the fourth in seven starts this season and second in three events this spring.

Cowboy junior Morgan Hoffmann completed a comeback of his own during Round 3, erasing a two-shot lead by A&M’s Jordan Russell with a 3-under 69 to claim medalist honors. The Wyckoff, N.J., native finished at 10-under 206 to come in two strokes clear of Russell.

The two-time All-American started quickly with birdies on three of his first five holes before turning at 2-under 34. Hoffmann carded six-straight pars to start his back nine before posting a birdie at the 16th and closing with a pair of pars to wrap up the victory.

The win was Hoffmann’s fourth career victory and his first since winning the 2009 Big 12 Championship.

Sean Einhaus carded a 74 during his final round to earn a top 10 of his own. The sophomore finished alone in eighth place at 2-over 218.

Senior Kevin Tway carded his second-straight 70 to move into the top 20, finishing in 14th place at 4-over 220.

Junior Peter Uihlein fired a 2-under 70 as well to move up 28 spots into a tie for 21st place at 223.

Freshman Talor Gooch closed with his second 76 in a row to tie for 50th place at 229.
