Cowboy Netters Win at UNLV


VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 69 Oklahoma State men’s tennis team claimed its second upset of the week Saturday, beating No. 56 , 5-2, at UNLV’s Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Cowboys, who also upset No. 41 Hawai’i, 4-3, Wednesday in Las Vegas, are now 5-4 in 2010.

Oklahoma State started the day by losing the doubles point with losses at the No. 2 and 3 spots, but responded with five big wins in singles competition to earn the dual win.

No. 15 Oleksander Nedovyesov, who teamed with Aleksey Bessonov to earn the Cowboys’ No. 1 doubles win, scored first for , knocking off UNLV’s Mehdi Bouras in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles to tie the score at 1-1.

Including Nedovyesov’s victory, the Cowboys stormed to four straight wins to begin singles play to decide the dual match.

After Nedovyesov won, Bessonov defeated UNLV’s Matthew Kunkel at No. 4, Ilija Martinoski defeated UNLV’s Johannes Markel at No. 3 and No. 61 Anton Bobytskyi defeated UNLV’s Luca Barlocchi at No. 2, all in straight sets.

UNLV’s Kasper Konyves then claimed the Rebels’ lone singles win at No. 6 before Eric West knocked off UNLV’s Attila Toth in a three-set battle, 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7), to finish the day and bring the final score to 5-2, in favor of Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys return to action when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to compete in the Blue Gray Tournament March 18-21.
