125: No. 8 Jon Morrison (OSU) dec. Camden Eppert (PU); 4-0
Eighth-ranked Cowboy Jon Morrison opened the dual with a 4-0 win over Cameron Eppert. Morrison scored the only points of the first period with a single-leg takedown and rideout. Starting the second period in the down position, Morrison escaped quickly to increase his lead to 3-0 while keeping his riding time advantage over one minute. Neither wrestler generated any offense for the remainder of the second period. Eppert chose a neutral start to the third period and with the exception of a failed shot by Morrison, there wasn’t any more offense to speak of. Morrison’s 1:03 riding time advantage pushed the final score to 4-0.
133: No. 1 Jordan Oliver (OSU) TF5 Akif Eren (PU); 20-5, 7:00
Top-ranked Jordan Oliver continued his wave of domination with a 20-5 technical fall win over Akif Eren in 7:00. Oliver opened the action with a quick takedown. He cut Eren loose, then allowed Eren onto his leg before hitting his signature takedown-into-nearfall move to bring the score to 7-1. Oliver let Eren loose then took him down again to bring the score to 9-2 at the end of the first period. Oliver started the second period in the top position and added to his riding time before cutting Eren loose and taking him down again two more times to hold a 13-4 lead after five minutes. Oliver started the third period in the down position and escaped quickly and bagged two more takedowns. He added another point when Eren was slapped for stalling. After Oliver’s 2:28 of riding time was added on, he was a 20-5 technical fall winner.
141: Luke Silver (OSU) dec. Jake Fleckenstein (PU); 8-3
Luke Silver dominated from the top position in his 8-3 win over Jake Fleckenstein. It took Silver only five seconds to score the first takedown of the bout. He smothered Fleckenstein with a punishing rideout and added two nearfall points at the end of the period. Silver started the second period in the down position and escaped quickly to extend his lead to 5-0. Fleckenstein chose a neutral start to the third period, but it was Silver who added another takedown to take a 7-0 lead before Fleckenstein escaped for his first point. Fleckenstein then bagged his first takedown to trim Silver’s edge to 7-3. Silver’s 2:26 riding time advantage brought the final score to 8-3.
149: No. 5 Jamal Parks (OSU) dec. Sam Patacsil (PU); 8-2
Jamal Parks extended OSU’s lead in the dual to 14-0 with an 8-2 win over Sam Patacsil. Parks bagged a pair of first period takedowns to hold a 4-1 lead after the first three minutes. He started the second period in the down position and escaped immediately to bring his lead to 5-1. A third Parks takedown brought the score to 7-1 before he cut Patacsil loose for an escape. Patacsil shot in on Parks’ leg, but couldn’t finish his takedown bid. With a neutral start to the third period, neither wrestler generated any points. When Parks’ 1:38 riding time was added on, the Cowboy junior was an 8-2 winner.
157: No. 14 Neil Erisman (OSU) dec. No. 12 Colton Salazar (PU); 11-5
After missing most of the season to date with an injury, Neil Erisman returned to claim an 11-5 upset win over No. 12 Colton Salazar in his first live action of the season. Salazar got on the board first with a first period takedown. Erisman escaped, then added a takedown of his own to seize a 3-2 lead before riding the Boilermaker out for the remainder of the first period. Erisman started the second period in the down position and after a quick escape and another Erisman takedown, the Cowboy senior extended his lead to 6-2. With the two wrestlers on their feet to start the third period, Erisman hit a powerful double-leg takedown to increase his advantage to 8-2. He cut Salazar loose, then added another point when Salazar was hit for a penalty point. Salazar connected on a lateral drop to bring the score to 9-5, but an Erisman escape capped the scoring in regulation to 10-5. When Erisman’s 1:51 riding time advantage was added on, he was an 11-5 winner.
165: No. 16 Dallas Bailey (OSU) dec. Patrick Kissel (PU); 4-3
Dallas Bailey extended Oklahoma State’s lead in the dual to 20-0 with a 4-3 win over Patrick Kissel. Bailey opened the scoring with a quick first-period takedown. He mounted up some riding time before Kissel broke loose. The second period started with Bailey on bottom. The two wrestlers were all over the mat before Bailey connected on a reversal to bring the score to 4-1. Bailey rode Kissel out for the remainder of the period. Bailey started the third period on top, but got reversed by Kissel to cap the scoring.
174: No. 16 Mike Benefiel (OSU) dec. No. 14 Luke Manuel (PU); 9-7
Mike Benefiel scored an upset win over No. 14 Luke Manuel when he claimed a 9-7 triumph over the Boilermaker. Benefiel got things going with his signature fireman’s carry into a takedown and two-point nearfall to go up, 4-0. Manuel broke free to bring the score to 4-1. Benefiel started the second period on bottom and exploded up immediately to take his lead to 5-1. Manuel connected on his first takedown to trim Benefiel’s advantage to 5-3, but a Benefiel escape plus a penalty point on Manuel gave the Cowboy a 7-3 lead. Manuel started the third period on bottom and escaped quickly, only to be taken down again. A Manuel escape and a Manuel takedown late in the bout brought the final score to 9-7.
184: No. 9 A.J. Kissel (PU) dec. No. 10 Chris Perry (OSU); 1-0
A penalty on Chris Perry for grabbing headgear was the only point scored in No. 9 A.J. Kissel’s 1-0 win over the Cowboy freshman. After an adventurous-but-scoreless first period, Perry mounted up and punished Kissel with a suffocating second-period rideout. Kissel got on the board when Perry was slapped for a penalty point on bottom for grabbing Kissel’s headgear in the third period. Perry ran out of time on his late escape attempt and the penalty point was the difference in Kissel’s 1-0 win.
197: No. 4 Clayton Foster (OSU) dec. No. 9 Logan Brown (PU); 3-2
Clayton Foster picked up his second victory over a top-10 opponent this year – his third if you count his win over Sonny Yohn at the NWCA All-Star Classic exhibition – when he secured a 3-2 win over No. 9 Logan Brown. After a scoreless first period, Foster escaped, then scored a takedown to take a 3-0 lead in the second period. A Brown escape trimmed Foster’s edge to 3-1. Foster started the third period on top, but a quick escape from Brown brought the score to 3-2. With neither wrestler able to add any more points, Foster was a 3-2 winner.
285: Roger Vukobratovich (PU) dec. Blake Rosholt (OSU); 6-1
Blake Rosholt’s ill-fated takedown attempt at the very end of the match was turned into a five-point move by Roger Vukobratovich in his 6-1 win over the Cowboy freshman. After a scoreless first period, Vukobratovich opened the scoring with an escape in the second stanza. Rosholt started the third period on bottom and escaped immediately to tie the score at 1-1. Rosholt surged in for a late takedown attempt, but Vukobratovich caught him, put his weight on him and scored a takedown and three-point nearfall as time expired to win, 6-1.
