Cowboy Wrestling Pounds No. 14 Iowa State, 37-9
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The No. 2 Oklahoma State wrestling team handed No. 14 Iowa State a 37-9 beating in the consolation bracket at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals Sunday morning. The Cowboys won eight of the 10 bouts, with six of those wins coming with bonus points attached.
It was the most lopsided win for OSU over Iowa State since a 37-8 victory over the Cyclones in 1984.
The win moved the Cowboys into the fifth-place match at the National Duals, where they will face No. 13 Missouri at 1 p.m. today. The Tigers were 21-12 winners over No. 6 Boise State this morning.
Cowboy 133-pounder Jordan Oliver and 197-pounder Clayton Foster both scored first-period wins by fall over their Cyclone counterparts and 157-pounder Neil Erisman claimed a 17-0 technical fall triumph in a tidy 3:33 to provide the highlights of the dual.

The tone was set for the dual when Jon Morrison pitched a 10-0 major decision shutout against Brandon Jones. Morrison got things started with an early takedown then he rode Jones out for the remainder of the first period. The two wrestlers started the second period in the neutral position and it wasn’t until there were eight seconds remaining that Morrison scored the only takedown of the period to extend his lead to 4-0. Morrison reversed Jones quickly to start the third period, then turned him to his back to add a three-point nearfall. When Morrison’s 3:21 riding time advantage was added on, the Cowboy freshman was a 10-0 major decision winner.

Jordan Oliver overwhelmed Ben Cash and pinned him at the 2:26 mark. Oliver held a 13-4 lead over Cash at the time of the fall, racking up five takedowns and a three-point nearfall before taking him to his back and scoring thepin.

149: No. 5 Jamal Parks (OSU) dec. Max Mayfield (ISU); 5-2
Jamal Parks kept the momentum in favor of Oklahoma State with a 5-2 win over Max Mayfield. After a pair of first-period takedowns, Parks held a 4-1 lead through the first three minutes. Mayfield and Parks traded escapes to start the second and third periods, respectively to cap the scoring at 5-2 in favor of Parks.
157: Neil Erisman TF5 Trent Weatherman; 17-0, 3:33
Neil Erisman exposed Trent Weatherman’s back to the mat four times in his 17-0 technical fall win in a tidy 3:33. Erisman stamped his claim on the match immediately, thundering in for a takedown, then turning him to his back three times to hold an 11-0 lead after the first period. Erisman escaped quickly to start the second period, then shot in for a takedown and added a three-point nearfall to end the bout.
165: No. 16 Dallas Bailey (OSU) dec. No. 10 Andrew Sorenson; 4-3
Facing a wrestler he’ll have to go through at the Big 12 level, Dallas Bailey held on to claim a 4-3 win over No. 10 Andrew Sorenson. Bailey scored the only takedown of the first period, then escaped with one second left in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Bailey started the third period in the top position and a reversal by Sorenson deadlocked the score at 3-3. Bailey escaped before Sorenson could hit the one-minute mark of riding time. The Cowboy freshman held off a late surge by Sorenson to clinch his win.

184: No. 10 Chris Perry (OSU) MD Cole Shafer (ISU); 17-7
The action was frantic in Chris Perry’s 17-7 major decision win over Cole Shafer. Perry started things with a takedown and two-point nearfall to take an early 4-0 lead. He started the second period in the down position and reversed Shafer to extend his lead to 6-0. A wild sequence ensued as Shafer scored a reversal, then added a three-point nearfall, only to get reversed by Perry and turned to his back for a two-point nearfall to bring the score to 10-5 after two periods. Shafer elected to start the third period on top, only to be reversed again by Perry to fall behind, 12-5. Perry cut Shafer loose, then took him down two more times and added 2:31 of riding time to put the finishing touches on his 17-7 major decision win.
197: No. 4 Clayton Foster (OSU) fall Phillip Hawes (ISU); 2:42
Clayton Foster forced his will on Phillip Hawes in his first-period win by fall. Foster took Hawes down quickly in the first period, then added a three-point nearfall to go up, 5-0. He turned Hawes to his back a second time, then got up on his head and flattened him out altogether for the fall.
285: Kyle Simonson (ISU) dec. Tyson Yoder (OSU); 6-2
Simonson bagged Iowa State’s first takedown of the dual early in the first period and rode Yoder out for the remainder of the opening stanza. Yoder started the second period in the down position and escaped with 14 seconds left in the period to bring the score to 2-1. With Yoder in the top position to start the third period, he cut Simonson loose quickly to fall behind, 3-1. A Simonson takedown, a Yoder escape and Simonson’s 3:09 riding time advantage capped the scoring in Simonson’s 6-2 win.
