Cowboys Bow Out of ITA Championships
TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State men’s tennis athletes Rifat Biktyakov and Aleksey Bessonov ended their doubles run at the 2010 D’Novo/ITA All-American Championships Friday, as the duo dropped its second round match at Tulsa’s Case Tennis Center.
The Cowboys tandem won its main draw opening round match Thursday over Fresno State’s Remi Boutillier and Rikus de Villiers, 8-6, to advance to today’s second round match.
Biktyakov, a freshman, and Bessonov, a junior, then faced Ohio State’s Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola in today’s match, falling to the Buckeye team, 8-5, and ending their run at the event.
The match marked the fifth match for the Cowboy tandem in the past four days, as they defeated three opponents in Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s qualifying rounds to advance to the main draw.
Oklahoma State is scheduled to resume competition next week for the Austin and Mansfield Future tournaments.
