Cowboys Bow Out of NCAAs


ATHENS, Ga. – For the third consecutive season, Oklahoma State’s Oleksandr Nedovyesov was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Individual Singles Championship, falling to USC’s No. 9-ranked Robert Farah, 6-0, 6-3, Friday at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex. Nedovyesov also fell in the doubles round of 16 as he and partner Aleksey Bessonov dropped their match against Tennessee’s Davey Sandgren and John-Patrick Smith, 6-3, 7-6(4).

The losses wrap up an outstanding career for Nedovyesov, who finishes with an impressive 105-23 singles record during his time at .

“He’s the most decorated player in the history of our program,” coach James Wadley said. “He’s the first three-time All-American we’ve had. He was the Big 12 Player of the Year two times. He was the National Player of the Year and National Player to Watch in 2009. He had a 4.0 last semester working on his masters degree and was the student athlete of the year. There’s really nothing more you can say about Oleksandr Nedovyesov. He’s the best player in the history of our program and an outstanding young man on and off the tennis court.”

Nedovyesov, who advanced to the singles round of 16 after defeating Ohio State’s No. 23 Justin Kronauge in the opening round and South Carolina’s Diego Cubas in second round, both in straight sets, finishes 7-4 in his career at the Singles Championships, finishing 1-1 in 2006, and 2-1 in 2007, 2008 and 2009. He also wraps up his final spring singles season at 19-4.

On the doubles side, Nedovyesov and Bessonov fell to the third-ranked Tennessee duo in a second-set tiebreaker, but they did record a tournament win with a 6-7(4), 7-5, 6-2, win over Mississippi State’s No. 29-ranked George Coupland and Artem Ilyushin in Thursday’s opening round.

The Cowboys wrapped up the 2010 season with an 8-13 overall team record and now say goodbye to starters Nedovyesov and Anton Bobytskyi, who have exhausted their collegiate eligibility. returns four starters for the 2010-11 season and resumes competition next fall.
