Cowboys In Second At Nicklaus Invite


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team finished the first day of action on Monday at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational in second place at Scioto Country Club.

The Cowboys opened the day with a 15-over 295 to stand in fifth place, but climbed the leaderboard with a 285 during afternoon play. OSU’s 36-hole total of 580, 20-over, is two shots off the pace of leader Arkansas and one stroke ahead of Illinois at the par-72, 7,140-yard layout.

Illinois’ Luke Guthrie and Arkansas’ Jamie Marshall posted even-par totals of 140 to hold the individual lead over a pair of players, including OSU’s Peter Uihlein.

The Cowboy junior opened with a 73 before firing a 2-under 68 to get in at 141. During Round Two, Uihlein started on the back nine and turned at even par after posting seven pars to go with a birdie at the 11th and a bogey at the 13th. The Orlando, Fla., native posted seven-straight pars on his front nine before closing with birdies at Nos. 8 and 9 to finish under par.

Senior Kevin Tway followed an opening 72 with a 73 to finish at 145 and tied for 10th. Also at 145 was junior Morgan Hoffmann, who carded rounds of 75 and 70 on the day.

Freshman Talor Gooch posted a pair of 75s to finish at 150 and tied for 25th.

Making his Cowboy debut was fellow freshman Ian Davis, who posted rounds of 80 and 74 to stand at 154 and tied for 43rd place.

will begin its final round at 9:34 a.m. () tomorrow and will be paired with Arkansas.
