Cowboys Take Title At Linger Longer
GREENSBORO, Ga. —Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team won its third tournament of the year on Sunday at the Linger Longer Invitational, finishing two shots ahead of Alabama at Reynolds Landing.
The Cowboys posted a 2-under 286 to hold off the Crimson Tide and earn their first victory in four starts this spring. finished at 865, 1-over par, while Alabama finished with a 283 during its third round and an 867 total.
The Tide did come away with the individual medalist as Bud Cauley fired a closing 67 for a 12-under total of 204 and a six-shot victory.
A pair of Cowboys held down the second and third spots with junior Kevin Tway and redshirt freshman Sean Einhaus taking the two spots behind Cauley in the individual race. Tway came into the final round tied for third, while Einhaus was second before the two flipped places with rounds of 67 and 74, respectively.
Tway started quickly on Sunday, standing at 6-under through his first six holes after recording an eagle and four birdies on the way to his runner-up finish. The Edmond, Okla., native’s 5-under final round gave him a 210 total. The finish marked the third time in his last four starts he has finished among the top three and the fifth time in his last six outings he has been among the top 10 on the leaderboard.
Einhaus’ 74 gave him a 2-under 214 total for a third-place showing and his first-ever top 10 in six career starts.
The duo was joined in the top 10 by senior Trent Whitekiller, who posted a 72 to finish tied for 10th place at 218.
Sophomore Peter Uihlein closed with a 74 to finish at 224 and tied for 29th place, while sophomore Morgan Hoffmann’s 73 tied him for 38th place at 227.
Junior Mark Johnson led the group of four individuals in the event, finishing tied for 58th at 232 after finishing with a 75.
Sophomore Michael Miller’s second consecutive 79 put him in the group tied for 68th place at 235, while redshirt freshman Drew Page posted a 77 for a 237 total to tie for 75th.
Sophomore Bernhard Neumann tied for 78th with a 239 score after closing with a 78.
will be back in action on April 5 when it travels to Austin, Texas for the Morris Williams Intercollegiate.
