Cowgirl Netters Run Past Oral Roberts

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. – The No. 51 Oklahoma State women’s tennis team improved to 6-2 in 2010 Friday, knocking off Oral Roberts 4-0 at the Indian Springs Country Club.

“It was nice to get another win and get a match for the girls to work on things,” coach Chris Young said. “Now we will get ready for our tournament next week and get ready to start Big 12 play.”

The Cowgirls dominated every aspect of the dual match, starting the day with three one-sided wins in doubles play.

Oklahoma State’s doubles tandems of Sarah Meghoufel and Malika Rose, Alisa Buslaieva and Alexandra Cristello and Nataliya Shatkovskaya and Leyla Simmons recorded 8-4, 8-3 and 8-3 wins at No. 1, 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.

The Cowgirls’ dominant play continued in singles play, as the they won three quick matches in straight sets at the No. 1, 2 and 3 singles spots to seal the team win.

The singles wins included Buslaieva knocking off ORU’s Lina Semenova, 6-3, 6-1; Sasha Belova beating ORU’s Kristin Gray, 6-0, 6-1; and Sarah Meghoufel beating ORU’s Tayler Pippin, 6-0, 6-0.

Rose, Cristello and Simmons also competed in singles play, but did not finish their matches because the dual result was already decided.

Oklahoma State returns to action next week for the Orlando Invitational, an individual tournament March 15-17. The team begins conference play March 19 at Baylor.
