Cowgirl Softball Defeats Cornell in the Tucson Regional
Oklahoma State’s 14th-ranked softball team defeated Cornell in the loser’s bracket of the Tucson Regional 7-0 and will face Hofstra at approximately 7:15 p.m. local time (9:15 p.m. ). The boxscore is attached in format.
Due to the lateness of the second game, here are some highlights from the earlier contest.
- Oklahoma State scored five runs in the third inning thanks to five hits, highlighted by a pair of two-run singles by Sam Heinlein (Edmond, Okla.) and Chelsea Garcia (Moore, Okla.).
- Senior hurler Anna Whiddon threw a complete-game shutout, her seventh of the season. She is now 22-9.
- Heinlein went 2-for-3 with three s and a run. Garcia was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Mariah Gearhart and Alysia Hamilton (Moore, Okla.) also had two hits.
The winner of tonight’s game will play Arizona at noon PT on Sunday (2 p.m. ). The winner will have to defeat the Wildcats twice to advance to the Super Regional against , which won the Austin, Texas Regional.
