Cowgirl Tennis Drops Match to Arkansas

OKLAHOMA CITY – The No. 57 Oklahoma State women’s tennis team moved to 1-4 Friday, falling to 14th-ranked Arkansas, 5-2, at The Greens Country Club.

“They are one of the hottest teams in the nation right now,” coach Chris Young said. “They played very good and we were right there. We need to be more consistent and continue to improve. We are so much better than we were three weeks ago. We just have to keep fighting and getting better and eventually things will go our way.”

OSU opened the match with a doubles win at the No. 3 spot from Malika Rose and C.C. Sardinha, but gave up the team point as the Razorback answered with wins at Nos. 1 and 2, 8-6 and 8-4.

Arkansas then took the first point in singles play as Emily Carbone defeated Kanyapat Narattana at No. 4, but Sardinha responded with a straight-set win over Arkansas’ Kate Lukomskaya to bring the score to 2-1, Razorbacks.

Although Malika Rose improved her dual record to 4-0 with a tiebreaker third-set win at the No. 6 spot, the Razorbacks won the remaining matches to take the dual and keep their undefeated record.

The Cowgirls are scheduled to return to action Sunday at noon, resuming play at The Greens Country Club against No. 27 SMU.
