Cowgirl Tennis Falls to SMU


OKLAHOMA – The No. 57 Oklahoma State women’s team faced its fifth-consecutive ranked opponent Sunday, falling to No. 27 , 4-1, at The Greens Country Club.

Kanyapat Narattana and Nataliya Shatkovskaya got the Cowgirls started with an 8-5 win over SMU’s Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarchikova at No. 1 doubles. The Mustangs answered with an 8-6 win at No. 3 singles and then sealed the team doubles point as Heather Steinbauer and Edyta Cieplucha outlasted Malika Rose and C.C. Sardinha, 9-7, at the No. 2 spot.

The Cowgirls lost the first singles point at No. 1, but Rose improved her perfect dual record to 5-0 as she knocked off SMU’s Ashley Turpin in straight sets at No. 6 singles.

Although the sophomore kept her unblemished record intact, the Mustangs won the next two matches at Nos. 3 and 4 to end the dual at 4-1, .

Oklahoma State, now 1-5, resumes action Feb. 13, traveling to Wichita, Kan., to take on the Wichita State Shockers.
