Cowgirl Tennis Wraps Up Fall Season
LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – The Oklahoma State women’s tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule Sunday at the 2010 MetLife Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic, playing in more than 20 matches over the course of the three-day tournament.
The event provided a last opportunity for the Cowgirls to compete individually in the fall in both singles and doubles play.
Oklahoma State athletes picked up nine wins at the event, including six singles and three doubles victories.
Kanyapat Narattana and Nataliya Shatkovskaya provided the biggest highlight of the event, using a first round bye Friday and a big win on both Saturday and Sunday to reach the doubles final match. The Cowgirls, however, fell just short in their doubles championship bid with a loss to Miami’s top-seeded Gabriella Mejia and Kayla Rizzolo.
The most successful OSU singles performer was Sarah Meghoufel, who made the singles quarterfinal round after a first round bye and a straight-set win over Miami’s Bistra Otashliyska in the second round. Meghoufel dropped her quarterfinal match to Notre Dame’s Chrissie McGaffigan.
Other Cowgirls adding singles wins to their records included Malika Rose, C.C. Sardinha, Kanyapat Narattana and Nataliya Shatkovskaya.
Oklahoma State resumes play in the spring for the dual season, with the opening match scheduled for Jan. 22 against Mississippi State. The Cowgirls were 3-3 in matches against MSU this weekend.
